Assessment of nurses’ knowledge and compliance to evidence based guidelines regarding bundle of ventilator associated pneumonia in a military hospital

Ventilator-associated pneumonia is the most common hospital-acquired infection among patients receiving mechanical ventilation in an intensive care unit. Different evidence based guidelines for prevention of ventilator-associated have been developed and recommended. Intensive Care Units’ nurses found to be best position put knowledge into practice as they are at patient’s bedside 24 hours daily providing nursing therefore play important role VAP. This study focuses on enhancing nurses’ compliance regarding (VAP) bundle units a Military Hospital. Objectives: To assess critical nurses' with preventive ventilator associated pneumonia. All head staff (N=80) working different (N=9) Hospital were included. The tools included self-administered questionnaire designed test nurse's observational checklist bundle. Results: total mean score (70.6%) was more than (52.4 %) Nurses’ levels excellent 16% studied nurses, very good 7.2%, 17.6%, fair 14.9% & poor 44.3% nurses. 56.4%, 3.5%, 2%, 24.5% Poor 13.43% In conclusion: VAP components group considerably lower levels, which indicates that training educational programs directed towards control device-associated infections should stress explaining principle behind procedure, manuals, information booklets self-instruction modules implemented guide healthcare personnel areas
